PROJECT DETAILS
- Project Name: Climate Resilient Smart Rainwater Harvesting: A Community-Centric Approach to Sustainable Water Management in Coastal Bangladesh (Phase 1)
Overview:
The Climate Resilient Smart Rainwater Harvesting project aims to develop a community-scale, technology-enabled rainwater harvesting approach to address freshwater scarcity in the coastal areas of Bangladesh, where increasing salinity and climate-related challenges are affecting access to safe drinking water.
The first phase of the project focuses on developing and testing a smart rainwater storage and monitoring system at laboratory scale and identifying a suitable location for future field-level implementation. The system will incorporate sensors to monitor key water-quality and storage parameters. Multiple storage units will be connected through a mesh communication network, enabling real-time monitoring and data transmission even in locations with limited internet connectivity.
The project also includes a preliminary field investigation in a coastal district to assess potential pilot locations, and existing water management challenges. Findings from the laboratory investigation and field assessment will establish the foundation for a future pilot-scale rainwater harvesting system.
Through the integration of rainwater harvesting, sensor-based monitoring, and community-scale water management, the project seeks to contribute to more reliable and climate-resilient freshwater solutions for vulnerable coastal communities in Bangladesh.
