On 3rd and 4th of September 2025, a team from CSIRS-UIU together with members of the SKS Foundation, conducted a site visit and stakeholder consultation in Barishal City Corporation. This activity was part of the ongoing research project, “A Study on Climate Resilience to Ensure Sustainable CWIS Promotion in Barishal City Areas,” which aims to identify climate-resilient sanitation solutions for the city.
The team visited several wards, including communities near Lakutia Canal, Mohammadpur Canal, and the Kirtankhola River, to better understand the sanitation challenges faced by residents in climate-vulnerable areas. Community members actively shared their experiences and concerns regarding sanitation services, providing valuable insights for the study.
As part of the visit, a stakeholder consultation was held with participation from local government officials, NGOs, academia, and community representatives. The session created a platform for dialogue on the current sanitation situation, service gaps, and opportunities for resilience-building. Prof. Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman, Director of CSIRS, delivered the keynote presentation, highlighting the sanitation status of Barishal City Corporation, the CWIS action plan, and the pressing need to integrate climate resilience into urban sanitation services.
