CSIRS-UIU and the Department of Civil Engineering, UIU, proudly marks the successful organization of a Research Talk on “Climate Resilient Smart Rainwater Harvesting in Coastal Bangladesh,” held on July 22, 2026, at UIU campus.
This discussion session was organized under the ongoing research project “Climate Resilient Smart Rainwater Harvesting: A Community-Centric Approach to Sustainable Water Management in Coastal Bangladesh” which aims to develop a smart rainwater harvesting system to address the growing salinity-induced drinking water crisis faced by coastal communities in Bangladesh. Currently the study is in its’ initial phase.
The session was initiated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of UIU, Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, and moderated by Prof. Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman, Department of Civil Engineering, and Director, CSIRS-UIU.
The talk brought together an esteemed gathering of WASH-sector professionals and development partners, including experts from the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), SNV Bangladesh, ITN-BUET, BRAC, Water & Sanitation for Urban Populations (WSUP), Water Aid Bangladesh, SKS Foundation, Practical Action Bangladesh and DSK who generously shared their experience and thoughts on rainwater harvesting systems and other sustainable water sources in the coastal areas of Bangladesh.
With active participation from the research team, faculty members, and development partners, the session fostered a rich exchange of field experience and practical insight into community-centric, climate-resilient water management. The discussion underscored the urgency of scalable, sustainable solutions to the salinity-induced drinking water crisis affecting coastal communities.
