MoU between CSIRS-UIU and Green Planet Initiative

On May 5, 2026, CSIRS-UIU signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Green Planet Initiative (GPI) — an environmental think tank based in Bangladesh, working at the intersection of solid waste management, circular economy, climate resilience, and sustainable urban systems.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman, Professor of Department of Civil Engineering, UIU & Director of CSIRS-UIU, and Md. Ekhtekharul Islam, Founder & Executive Director of GPI. Other distinguished attendees included Dr. Rumana Afrin, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Associate Director of CSIRS-UIU, Dr. Shantanu Kumar Saha, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of EDS.

GPI brings a compelling portfolio to this partnership. They have supported nationally relevant initiatives in solid waste management sector. They have also designed and piloted context-specific waste management solutions supported by community engagement and behavior change strategies.  In addition, GPI places strong emphasis on capacity building and knowledge systems. This aligns powerfully with CSIRS-UIU’s mission of advancing smart, resilient infrastructure through research, innovation, and real-world impact. Together, they will conduct joint research on waste management, climate resilience & environmental pollution, develop technical solutions for sustainable urban systems, deliver capacity building programs and collaborate on consultancy projects bridging policy and field-level implementation among other activities. GPI’s deep field experience combined with CSIRS-UIU’s technical and academic strength creates a partnership built to generate scalable, inclusive, and climate-resilient solutions for Bangladesh.
