PROJECT DETAILS

  • Project Name: A Study on Climate Resilience to Ensure Sustainable CWIS Promotion in Barishal City Areas

Overview

Bangladesh’s coastal cities face growing risks from climate change, including flooding, tidal surges, and heavy rainfall, which threaten sanitation systems and public health. In Barishal City Corporation, located in a low-lying coastal zone, these hazards frequently damage sanitation facilities and disrupt services, creating additional challenges for vulnerable communities. Addressing these risks is essential to ensure sustainable Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) and to build climate resilience at the urban level.

To respond to these challenges, a research study on Climate Resilience to Ensure Sustainable CWIS Promotion in Barishal City Areas is being undertaken. This is a collaborative study by CSIRS-UIU and SKS Foundation. The study aims to assess climate vulnerabilities, identify service gaps, and recommend locally adapted, climate-resilient sanitation solutions that are inclusive and sustainable. Findings from this study will guide future planning and strengthen resilience of sanitation services in Barishal City Corporation.
